About This Project

VERMILION COMMUNITY CENTRE

In December 2005, the Town of Vermilion commissioned BR2 Architecture for the design and construction of a new Community Centre.

The site for the new Community Centre is adjacent the existing Fire Fighting training facility, Lakeland College, as well as the outdoor Fair Grounds. These adjacent uses will add to the usership of the facility, and create a center of community use facilities. Parking on site is available for 400 – 500 cars with overflow parking available at the College site. The facility is approximately 2,285 m2 of new construction consisting of the following spaces:

  • Ballroom with seating for 600 persons at round tables
  • Green Room
  • Bar Servery
  • Buffet Line
  • Kitchen Area
  • Dance Floor
  • Stage Area
  • Entrance and Circulation Corridor
  • Coat Room
  • Office Area
  • Community Wing
  • Five Community Rooms complete with storage and wet areas
  • Separate entrance

The new Vermilion Community Centre is intended to be used for weddings, art groups including dances and other fine arts, banquets, conferences, indoor play areas, regional meeting space, College and other user group meetings, with the intent of designing the facility to meet the broadest of community users as possible.

The design of the facility incorporates an historic feel to the front façade that will tie the facility in to the existing setting with the College and the Fire Fighting School.
